Parkinson Association of Illinois – PAIL

Introduction

PAIL is the Illinois chapter of the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc. (NPF). PAIL was established in 2006 by a group of concerned and compassionate individuals: people who have been living with Parkinson disease for many years, newly-diagnosed patients, young onset patients, friends and family members of people with Parkinson, and professionals in the medical community.

PAIL's Mission

The Parkinson Association of Illinois (PAIL) is a not for profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by Parkinson disease. Pail’s efforts are dedicated to providing support and education to patients and their families, promoting awareness of Parkinson disease in the community, and raising funds for research.

PAIL's First Goal: Telephone Helpline

After a fun and successful fundraising/awareness-building event on November 12, 2006 (please see photos), the Chapter’s first order of business was to establish a telephone helpline. Those Board members with PD believe strongly that their experiences can benefit newly diagnosed people with Parkinson. The Board wants to help people to understand and accept diagnosis, to cope with lifestyle changes, to refer individuals to resources. Board members want to listen and are willing to share their own experiences with callers.
