Support Groups

All support groups and classes are open to patients, caregivers and their families. For more information, please call Diane Breslow, MSW, LCSW at 312/503-4397. Support groups offer people the opportunity to:

  • Share experiences
  • Learn about all aspects of their condition
  • Meet new people
  • Receive support and understanding

The Center's Support Groups are provided free of charge, and always include refreshments. The format of the group includes presentations by guest speakers, as well as open-ended discussions and sharing. Visitors and guests are always welcome.

Early Stage/Younger Onset/Mid-Life Parkinson's Disease Support Group

The Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease Support Group focuses on issues specific to young and mid-life adults. Such issues include how best to share information about the diagnosis, when to start medications, concerns about job performance or financial security, impact on marriage and family. This group helps set the tone for patients and their families to face Parkinson’s disease with a positive attitude. Like all good support groups, the group offers education, socialization, practical pointers, and most of all, understanding.
